At The 5800 Apartments, We Care about Green Living Just as Much as You Do

According to statistics gathered by Rubicon , a single American consumes roughly two trees in paper products every year. With the US population at over 300 million people, that means Americans alone use enough paper products to exhaust over 600 million trees. Imagine how many trees we could save if we each made an effort to consume fewer paper products.

Here at The 5800, we want to do all we can to protect the environment and promote green living—not just by reducing unnecessary waste, but also by saving on water. Here are three ways we go green at The 5800 Apartments .

We Save on Paper and Plastic

At The 5800, we go paperless by doing everything—service requests, rent payments, applications, and notices—online. Not only is this more convenient for our residents, but it eliminates the need for unnecessary paper waste.

In our community, we strive to provide quality services to help make your life as a resident a little easier. Visit our new resident portal to pay your rent online, enter a maintenance service request, browse our calendar for upcoming activities, and much more!

In addition to this, we cut down on plastic waste by encouraging our residents to use the water bottle refill station we have on the property. If we each use a reusable water bottle, we can significantly reduce the waste from plastic water bottles.

We Save on Water

Because Lakewood is prone to droughts, we do what we can to use water sparingly. To start, we have drought-tolerant landscaping throughout our community, which means we use plants that don’t require much water. We also installed a drip irrigation system and replaced some grass and mulch areas with beautiful stone. This allows us to save thousands of gallons of water on just our landscaping.

We also save on water with our plumbing system. Most toilets use about 3.5 gallons of water every time they flush, but not ours! We have low-flow toilets , which use about 20 percent less water than regular toilets, which makes a huge difference. Each toilet can save up to 13,000 gallons of water per year.

We Encourage Recycling

One of the best ways to prioritize green living is to recycle. We have recycling bins in our office, and we encourage all residents to recycle as well. You can recycle items such as plastic bottles and containers, paper, empty cans, and flattened cardboard. However, you cannot recycle food, plastic bags, liquid, plastic wrap, or cups with wax or plastic coating.

Here in Lakewood, you can take your recycling to Express Recycling & Collections . A small change in habit like recycling regularly can make a big difference for our planet.

We’re Excited to Announce Organic Waste Recycling!

Organic waste recycling will be coming soon to our local community, and we can’t wait to participate! This initiative will help keep millions of pounds of food waste out of landfills and turn them into compost and renewable natural gas.  We’ll keep you up to date as this program expands throughout the state.

We want to do everything we can to take care of the environment and live green. If you are looking for a new home that cares as much about protecting the planet as much as you do, The 5800 apartments might be the perfect place for you!
